Mark Smith practices in financial services law with an emphasis on real estate, loan origination, creditor’s rights, insolvency, and UCC matters.
Mark represents financial institution clients and has a broad understanding of the various state and federal consumer protection laws impacting them. With substantial experience in the areas of selection and management of other legal service providers, Mark brings a strong client-based perspective to his work assignments.
Prior to joining Braun Kendrick, Mark spent nearly 20 years as an in-house attorney for Citizens Bank and its affiliates. During that time Mark assumed lead counsel responsibility for risk management, loan and deposit product development, and regulatory compliance activities within and outside the State of Michigan.
Mark also has previous experience as a judicial law clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Ohio, and practice experience as an attorney specializing in consumer and business bankruptcy law.
